Ethos Health is a preserved farm in Long Valley, NJ with a unique operating model. The farm is owned by a primary care physician who’s on farm practice treats patients using a whole-food, plant-based diet and lifestyle. We operate a certified organic market garden with approximately 2 acres currently under cultivation. The produce, fruit, and flowers are sold on site at the Doctor’s Farm Market. We use no-till, regenerative practices with a strong focus on how soil, environmental and human health intersect. Job Description: Ethos is looking for an aspiring farmer to work both in the field and in the farm stand starting in April and going through October. The schedule includes two, eight-hour days in the field and two eight-hour days in the farm stand. The work days are Thursday through Sunday. The candidate should be social and enjoy working with the public, be able to work independently and must be reliable. This is an opportunity to learn all aspects of small scale, organic market farming and direct market sales. Our ideal candidate is someone who has some farm experience, is excited to learn, has a good work ethic and attitude, enjoys being outdoors, even in the rain, wind and heat, has good health and is fit enough to bend, squat and shovel for hours as well as lift 50lbs. A sense of humor goes a long way. Commitment and reliability are paramount. We’re counting on you to help us run the farm and in return we’ll teach you all we know and prepare you to be a successful, environmentally conscious farmer. There is potential for continued employment beyond the season as well as pay increases based on performance. The pay is $12/hour on the books which includes workman’s comp. Fresh field produce is part of the compensation. Job Duties: Greenhouse – seeding, potting up and watering. Field work - Bed prep, broad forking, compost and amendment spreading, planting, weeding, cultivating, harvesting, wash and pack, maintaining logs and other duties as required. Farm stand – Once trained you will be responsible for opening, closing and working the stand. This includes bringing produce from cooler to the stand and displaying it in an attractive way, restocking as needed, checking out customers with our Square POS system-handling cash, check and credit card sales. Engaging with customers is a very important part of the job. Knowledge of vegetables is a plus, but you will be fully trained in all aspects before working independently. You will close the farm stand, packing up the produce and putting back in the cooler, cleaning the containers and tidying up. This position requires a background check.
