Lead Farm Hand Job Description for Honey Brook Organic Farm, with 285 certified organic acres and 110 acres in vegetable production, and a home delivery business as well as a 3,500+ CSA membership. Honey Brook Organic Farm can offer a diverse job experience in a farming operation, which continues to expand its crop offerings and production technologies, including season extension. As one of the largest and oldest certified organic CSA farms in the nation, we are a model of sustainable, profitable farming and have much experience to share with employees.-The position is for work to be performed at our farms located at 260 Wargo Road, Pennington, NJ, 258 Crosswicks-Ellisdale Road, Chesterfield, NJ & 42 Chesterfield-Georgetown Road, Chesterfield, NJ. Work schedule for the position is Monday through Saturday, 7:30am –5pm, unless work load dictates otherwise. This is a year-round, hourly position, but weekly hours decrease during the months of December through February. Lead Farm Hand works directly with Jim Kinsel, Farm Manager and David Camacho, Field Manager. The Lead Farm Hand is responsible for some field management (hand transplanting, disease & pest identification). Will be responsible for assisting the Farm Manager with field management and preparation (including tillage, soil fertility, transplanting, cultivation & irrigation management oversight), as well as assisting with special projects like tunnel and greenhouse installation, skinning and maintenance. Must be capable of record keeping and the management of field staff. Mechanical and welding skills and the ability to communicate in Spanish are definite pluses, but not necessities. Occasional driving of refrigerated box truck for supply pick-up and produce delivery. This is a fast paced, diverse work environment where attention to detail must be maintained.S uccessful candidate has the ability to work independently, prioritize work, anticipate issues and problems and develops solutions, and is pro-active in detecting field pests and diseases as well as to ameliorate the conditions that allow pests/diseases to become established.
