Salaried Field Manager Job Description Chester County Food Bank (CCFB) manages several field sites in central Chester County, Pa. CCFB also manages two greenhouses, providing approximately 180,000 seedlings for our Raised Bed Garden Program and farm partners. In 2017, CCFB grew approximately 160,000 pounds of mixed vegetables. Our produce is distributed to affiliated food relief agencies and our mobile market truck. A portion is processed in our commercial kitchen, and/or utilized by our nutrition education program. The Field Manager works with and reports to the Agriculture Program Director in day to day field operations and greenhouse production. S/He works collaboratively with farm partners to assess needs, meet labor demands, and ensure the successful production of various crops. This position will require independent supervision of volunteers to achieve high levels of productivity and personal engagement. Responsibilities: • Field labor: planting, weeding, thinning, cultivating, harvesting, washing, packing • Work with volunteer groups of many ages, abilities, and backgrounds to complete above tasks. • Help set priorities for daily and weekly work schedule • Assist with greenhouse propagation and maintenance • Operate equipment: medium to large tractors with implements, skid steer, BCS with implements, non-cdl box trucks, truck with trailer, misc. mowers and string trimmers, etc. • Survey fields and greenhouses for pests and disease • Keep accurate records of staff and volunteer hours, harvest totals, planting dates • Assist other staff with various projects and work-related errands as needed Qualifications • At least three growing seasons of experience, or an agricultural degree and two seasons • Experience managing field workers or volunteers strongly preferred • Walk-behind tractor and tractor/skid steer experience preferred • Experience or willingness to drive a box truck, cargo van, or truck with landscaping trailer as needed • Demonstrated ability to perform field labor in adverse conditions • Ability to lift 50 pounds • Commitment to a demanding seasonal workload which can include evenings and Saturdays. (55-60 hours per week May-September) Comp time is offered Mid-December through February • Self-motivated and directed • This position is highly mobile and requires a clean driving record. Work truck provided. Reliable personal vehicle is required as work truck may not always be available. Personal vehicle mileage is compensated.
