Founded in 2018 in partnership with Comeback Farm, Cabbage Throw Farm is a 1.5 acre market garden located in NJ’s fertile Musconetcong River Valley. Proprietors Dean and Emily are young farmers who carry a strong environmental ethic and practice minimum and shallow tillage in order to preserve the soil’s natural structure and inherent fertility. Cabbage Throw is certified organic by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture.
We believe that small farms can change the world in a very big way. On our little one acre garden plot, we can successfully grow some 30-40 different seasonal vegetables which nourish hundreds of families. By taking a more human scaled approach to farming, we can keep our environmental “footprint” low without compromising the size of our overall impact.
Our farming techniques are straightforward and the garden tools we use are low tech & familiar. Call us old timey, but we feel that this style of farming is more new wave than indoor vertical hydroponic farms or using robotic systems to tend to our food.
Our call to farming first came from a call to the land & for a higher moral responsibility to our environment. As farmers, we understand that we are in the unique position to reconnect people to nature through food. To us, farming is by far the coolest and most delicious branch of environmentalism. Help us to grow and eat our way to a more sustainable and healthy future!
