Grow your own food organically? Yes, its not hard to produce your own safe, healthy crops while protecting Mother Earth. Longtime organic grower Al Johnson will use his garden to demonstrate options for soil preparation, planting, watering, fencing and efficient control of weeds. We will explore crop choices and management for small, expanding, and large gardens and extending the season beyond summer. Options for providing your own fertility by composting, cover cropping and use of other local resources will be covered as well as basic controls for common pests. The day will end exploring Al’s small fruit crops which feed his family year-round. No motorized implement has ever been inside Al’s fence, and you won’t need any either.
For the best experience, we are limiting the tour to twelve participants per session. Both sessions will cover the same material.
