The focus of Microloans is on the financing needs of small, beginning farmer, niche and non-traditional farm operations, such as truck farms, farms participating in direct marketing and sales such as farmers’ markets, CSA’s (Community Supported Agriculture), restaurants and grocery stores, or those using hydroponic, aquaponic, organic and vertical growing methods.

Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE) Grant Programs
Research & Education Grant Program
This grant program funds projects with or without an applied research component that result in farmers gaining knowledge and skills they can apply to make verifiable changes that lead to greater sustainability.
Research for Novel Approaches in Sustainable Agriculture Grant Program
This grant program funds projects for applied sustainable agriculture research for which farmer adoption is not yet realistic.
Professional Development Grant Program
This grant program funds train-the-trainer projects that increase the knowledge, skills, understanding, and abilities of agricultural service providers to teach farmers about sustainable practices and approaches.
For commercial farmers who want to test a new idea using a field trial, on-farm demonstration, marketing initiative, or other technique.
Graduate Student Research Grant Program
For students enrolled in a graduate program at a Northeast accredited college, university, or veterinary school who want to research key topics in sustainable agriculture.
For agricultural professionals who want to conduct projects working in partnership with farmers.
Organic Certification/Transition Assistance
