Alyssa B. from NJ Audubon Society joined NOFA NJ’s Monthly Organic Open House to present their Healthy Land & Waters Grant program. The application is one page, simple to complete, and is an easy way for farmers to obtain resources and funds to implement on-farm conservation practices, like cover-cropping. Small farms stand to benefit as well, as the HLWG may be able to cover up to 60% of the cost of small-scale farm equipment needed to implement such conservation practices.

Aside from the program, farmers stand to benefit from collaboration and engagement with NJ Audubon, as they provide free technical assistance to farmers seeking to engage in conservation practices. Further, engagement with conservation organizations can only increase a farm’s chance to obtain funding for future grants and conservation projects, and the intangible benefits of healthy ecosystems (increased pollinators, beneficial insects, etc..) provide numerous benefits to all farm systems.
