We are looking for someone with a love of animals who is passionate about sustainable farming with a solid knowledge of farm equipment (tractors, etc…). 1-2 years livestock farming is highly preferred. This person must be proactive and take pride in anticipating the animals’ needs, keeping the animals healthy, and keeping the farm in good order. Completing a day’s work means leaving the farm clean and orderly and ready for the next day’s work.

The Livestock Farmer will be responsible for the day-to-day chores on the farm, to include the daily care, well-being, and pasture rotation/feeding/watering of the animals. Duties also include maintenance of fields, equipment, and fences, and interacting with the Farm Manager on daily and weekly tasks. Must be able to work with a team but carry out duties independently.

Opportunities for growth to livestock manager or development as a butcher. Role may include some transportation of animals from various fields in the Hopewell Valley, and potentially driving to Lancaster or Central PA to pick up milk or cattle that is raised for us by Thistle Creek Farm, our pasture-based partner. Must possess a valid driver’s license for this responsibility.

Double Brook Farm is a sustainable livestock farm located on over 800 acres in Hopewell, NJ. The farm raises cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, turkeys, goats, and ducks. We are part of a closed-loop operation that includes a full-service market, Brick Farm Market, and a fine dining restaurant, Brick farm Tavern. Our animals are raised on pasture, and during the growing season, are rotated daily on fresh grass. Cattle and sheep are raised 100% on grass and pigs and poultry are fed a non-GMO grain supplement that is raised for us by local farmers.

Double Brook Farm also has one of only a handful on on-farm, USDA-inspected slaughterhouses in the country. We process our own animals primarily to reduce stress to the animals and to limit our carbon footprint.
