Dr. Sara Via moved to the University of Maryland as Professor of Biology in 1997 after holding faculty positions at the University of Iowa and Cornell University. Since 2014, she has been teaching Marylanders about climate change impacts and solutions through the University of Maryland Extension. Sara has worked extensively with the Maryland Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists and Maryland farmers, leading the Climate Science for Farmers Extension Team. Sara has taught soil health workshops for the Maryland Dept. of Agriculture and NRCS, emphasizing the crucial and often unexpected roles of underground life in the soil ecosystem.
