My wife and I are local urban homesteaders in Wayne NJ. We grow over 70 different organic fruits, herbs, and vegetables on a ¼ acre property. We have 16 small to large gardens totaling 500 sq ft and harvest an average of 3.4 pounds per sq ft. That’s over 1500 pounds per year. We make our own soil and raise 8 laying hens for fresh organic eggs. We make jellies and jams and preserve hundreds of pounds of food, pickling potatoes, broccoli, carrots, eggs, etc. I have been labeled “The Chicken Man” by local residents stemming from a court victory for the right to own and raise hens in Wayne, NJ. I have become an expert in understanding the verbiage in local town livestock ordinances. Have helped residents change their laws and have written town ordinances for local towns. I am a community leader and have been in front of the urban homesteading movement for over 10 years.
