Zoonotic, Reemerging and USDA Program Diseases

“I’ve heard of it, but don’t know much else” – zoonotic, reemerging, and USDA program diseases. Protecting your animals’ health, providing safe products to consumers, and protecting your health is important to producers and USDA APHIS Veterinary Services. This presentation will cover: • Zoonotic diseases - diseases you can get from livestock and poultry and their prevention • USDA program diseases – what are they and why do producers and USDA care about these diseases • Reemerging diseases - old diseases being seen more often, and the unique risks of raising animals outdoors Requirements to move livestock and poultry across state lines will also be discussed in the context of zoonotic and USDA program diseases. Preventing Zoonotic, USDA program, and Re-emerging disease in your livestock and poultry will be covered in Dr. Seraphin’s presentation “Biosecurity: Keeping your animals healthy”.
