This is a unique opportunity for an experienced vegetable grower to step into an established, profitable farm business and take over a large part of the operation as Head of Vegetable Production (HVP). The HVP will play a role in shaping the future of the business, with the possibility to gain an equity stake in the business. The Farm: 80A in Western PA-- one of the pioneers and leading certified organic farms in the East for 40 years. Mature and stable business; profitable; diverse. 20 A vegetables and herbs. 3A disease resistant orchard. Very large CSA. Crew-- half dozen locals plus H2A field workers. Daughter plans to manage the orchard and develop an estate cidery; she is seeking to cooperatively manage and develop an updated overall farm plan with the HVP. HVP Responsibilities: Grow and market organic vegetables from seed to harvest, including office, greenhouse, and field responsibilities. While this is a managerial position, there will be multiple hats to wear including field work--especially true while learning the land and existing practices. Living: Housing available 10 minutes from farm in Zelienople. This is an ideal house and location for a young family. Zelienople is a charming, walkable small rural town with excellent schools, and only a 45-minute drive from Pittsburgh, with its cultural venues, top higher education, museums, and burgeoning food scene. Start: Ideally, December 2018. Or immediately--fall would be a great time to get the lay of the land. Salary: Commensurate with experience and responsibility.
