Sassafras Hill Farm in Barnegat, NJ is a 27.5 acre Certified Naturally Grown farm with 10-12 acres currently in vegetable, berry, herb, flower, & annual fruit production. Our apiary provides pollination, and honey for sale. Sassafras has a small CSA, an on-site farm stand, and participates in farmers markets on Long Beach Island. We also sell to restaurants and specialty stores. Our farm is available for farm to table events, and such. Sassafras actively offers educational programs at the farm for children and adults. We hope to provide valuable outreach as an informational resource in our community. Looking towards the future, we plan to expand our cultivated area, initiate poultry & livestock development, establish perennial fruits & nuts, and agroforestry, including mushrooms and other forest crops. Our infrastructure is well developed: a greenhouse, two high tunnels, a wash-pack facility, early 1900’s carriage barn for a farm stand, vintage/historical out buildings, office, two, deeply drilled Ag wells, disks, plows, irrigation/fertigation, 4x4 drive tractors, dump truck, trailers, cultivator, seeders, rototiller, spreaders, film mulch layer w/ irrigation tape, manure spreader, front loader, forklift, and excavator. We have a fully operational woodworking, metalworking, and welding shop to support the farm’s needs. Sassafras Hill Farm is 12 minutes/18 miles to ocean & bay beaches on Long Beach Island. The farm is just over an hour to Philadelphia, less than two hours to New York City, and about a half hour to Atlantic City. Sassafras Hill Farm is ideally located to support our local community, as well as a vibrant summer resort of second homes. Additionally, we are the only farm of our kind growing Certified farm fresh produce for the local communities and surrounds. Sassafras is going into its fourth year of full retail sales. Last summer was the first season we had an on site farm stand, and response to it was extremely positive. We’re just beginning to tap into the full potential of our markets and our future looks bright.
