Gravity Hill Farm (GHF) ( located at 67 Pleasant Valley Drive in Titusville, NJ is partnering with Rolling Harvest Food Rescue (RHFR) ( in January 2020 to grow organic food on two acres of their existing fields to donate to area emergency feeding sites. RHFR has been growing their food rescue gleaning organization over the last nine years and has partnerships with 43 local farms and more than 60 hunger-relief recipient agencies. We are looking for the perfect candidate to oversee all farm-related hands-on activities for our two-acre growing operation at GHF. You will help supervise the groups of RHFR volunteers, who will be onsite primarily Wednesday and Saturday mornings, with other hours as needed throughout the season. Volunteer and corporate groups will assist our farmer with any tasks needed to fulfill the mission—including planting, weeding, harvesting, fencing, etc. This employee will live on the farm and will also share responsibilities for the caretaking of the entire property, including the education garden. You will also help plan and communicate with GHF tenant farmers to coordinate their additional produce donations on additional GHF land. Since all produce will be grown for donation, the normal farm duties of sales and marketing are not required. Excellent organizational, communication and documenting skills are essential for the successful management of the donation farm operation. About the location: Gravity Hill Farm is just two miles away from the thriving scenic river towns of Lambertville, NJ and New Hope, PA, drawing thousands from New York and people from across the country to the area’s many riverside dining, shopping and nature attractions. ROLLING HARVEST Farmer duties: 1. Farm Manager for RHFR two-acre field. 2. Day-to-day farm management, growing and planning 3. Supervise RHFR twice-weekly volunteer and Corporate groups on Wednesdays and Saturdays 9-11 am in season. 4. Responsible for maintaining RHFR coolers, shed and packing shed use; compost and garbage for RHFR; keeping areas clean 5. Help with loading/unloading RHFR food between cooler and delivery trucks 6. Coordinate with Gravity Hill’s tenant farmers for: 7. Time-share coordination in use of packing shed, greenhouse and other farm equipment 8. Communicate and coordinate with two GHF tenant farmers who will also be donating some of their produce to our mission 9. Coordinate any field prep and help with RHFR fields that other farm partners may wish to offer us 10. Rolling Harvest Farmer duties for BARN AT GRAVITY HILL: 11. Watering/Irrigation of landscaping property on farm (trees, shrubs) as well as help with education garden watering 12. Help with some growing in adjacent Education Garden 13. Open/Close Gates and ensure all gates closed when should be at night.; Deer alerts and coordinate removal with on-site GHF farm maintenance personnel 14. Regular equip maintenance and report when mechanical issues arise so farm maintenance personnel can arrange repairs as needed. 15. Scout for pests and pestilence like lantern flies, bag worms, tent caterpillars and help resolve on day to day basis. Salary and Benefits: Farmer Position: $30,000 salary—expectation is for a 40-hour work week, that may extend to 55 hours as needed; $2400 healthcare subsidy; Spacious, furnished bedroom with private bath/shower and a great view of the farm. Shared kitchen. Six weeks paid time off in winter; access to farm produce. No pets. Job Requirements: Three years’ seasonal organic farm experience. Extensive understanding of crop rotation, cover cropping, irrigation and soil maintenance, and weed management. Knowledge of farm equipment to ensure proper function and maintenance· Must share a strong sense of social justice, food access for neighbors in need, and food equality. Strong management skills, cleanliness, organization and record-keeping are maintaining the farm. Experience planning and managing planting and work schedules with farm staff and volunteers; setting goals and critical timelines. Positive, strong work ethic, energetic attitude and strong communication skills. Must enjoy working with inexperienced volunteers in simple field work, harvesting and helping volunteers have a meaningful experience at the Farm. Experience dealing with health, food safety and environmental standards and regulations CDL not required but a bonus Physically fit with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
