Ironbound Farm located in Hunterdon County is a 108 Acre preserved farm in the Highlands region of New Jersey. Our farm is a diversified operation which practices Regenerative Agriculture. The property consists of 45 acres of forest and wetlands and 50 Acres of Silvopastured orchards integrated with annual crops, livestock, infusion fruits, herbs and flowers. Additionally, we have about half an acre of high tunnels and low tunnels for year-round production of salad greens and roots. Our farm is also the home of Ironbound Hard Cider and a tasting room where we are producing ciders year-round, have lunch and dinner service seasonally, private and public events and educational activities. For the 2021 Farming season we are looking for a group of hardworking and eager to learn individuals to join our team. The individuals we hope to hire are team players, good communicators, critical thinkers and problem solvers. Willing to work rain or shine and in some cases from sunup to sundown. Annual Field Crop Apprentice: Prerequisites: 1. 2+ years vegetable farming experience 2. Experience farming with tractors 3. Experience working with large crew We are in search for an individual who is looking to join our field crop vegetable team for the 2021 season. On our farm we produce roughly 15 acres of annual crops and manage them in a few different fashions. This farmer will have a focus on growing the bulk of our vegetables in a ‘traditional’ row crop/tractor farming method. Our fields are laid out in either crop blocks or are in an alley cropped system within our silvopastured apple orchards. In these systems we are growing around 30 different crops and many varieties within each crop. This farmer will also have some overlap in all facets of our operation from working in our propagation greenhouse, planting and managing crops in high tunnels and low tunnels, harvesting, and wash and packing. This role involves the following: 1. 35-50 hours a week March – November 2. Seed starting 3. Transplanting 4. Fertilizing 5. Tractor operating a. Primary tillage b. Secondary tillage c. Material spreading d. Bed shaping e. Transplanting f. Harvest attachments g. cultivating 6. Setting up and moving Irrigation 7. Field clearing and turning over 8. Harvesting 9. Trellising 10. Mulching 11. Spraying 12. Cover cropping 13. Mowing and weed whacking 14. Tunnel construction 15. Ability to work with a team 16. Speaking Spanish (not required but a plus). 17. Ability to drive in a straight line for an exceptionally long period of time 18. Willingness to work in all conditions 19. Ability to haul heavy materials in and out of fields on uneven terrain.
