Honey Brook Organic Farm is one of the largest and oldest organic vegetable crop farms in the Northeast, with 120 acres in production for a 3400+ member CSA. We offer a diverse job experience in a farming operation continuing to expand its crop offerings and production technologies. Honey Brook Organic Farm is a model of sustainable, profitable farming with a wealth of valuable experience to share with employees. Work begins in February and goes through September. Interns work directly with our greenhouse manager with some oversight from our farm and field managers. We will be working out of both our Pennington, NJ and Chesterfield, NJ locations. With respect to hours, the work is approximately 40-50 hours/week or less, depending upon the needs of the candidates, so we have flexibility in scheduling. Seeking highly motivated individuals that work well in teams and independently. Prior farm/greenhouse experience & desire to farm for a career is preferred. Familiarity with Spanish is a plus. Ability to work in summer heat and continually lift boxes weighing as much as 25 lbs required. This is a paid position and shared housing may be available. Learn organic farming from the folks that have been doing it for over thirty years in Central NJ and have a lot to teach! Production Focus The work will be approximately 80% field/greenhouse work and 20% marketing, packing and administrative. Interns will assist with greenhouse production and record keeping, hand cultivation and direct seeding in the field, transplanting and pruning of nut and fruit trees and bushes. Interns will also assist in our Distribution Center and pick-your-own fields, which is heavy on customer service and with our Boxed Share Program, including packing and quality control. Interns returning for a second year will begin learning mechanical skills and equipment maintenance, supply & equipment procurement, compost production and greenhouse management as well as crop planning.
